Classical Atelier

This program is designed for those students who are interested to learn the skill of how to draw and paint realism, following a curriculum as used by the 19th century French Academies.  In recent years this approach is being revived and now it is being used by various Art schools in Europe and US.

In order to be able to join these sessions the student must be ready to seriously commit to regularly practice and to dedicate a number of hours per week to practice and work on various projects.

 

The learning process is based upon accumulative learning where students tackle subjects of increasing complexity as they progress. The more you practice the quicker you achieve a level of proficiency.

In order to make life easier I am introducing this program as an online course combined with a few studio sessions for those students who are able to attend to one of the studios where I conduct classes.

 

During the studio sessions you will be shown the technique and what you need to do to complete that level of the course in order for you to be able to work from home for the remaining of the exercises.

What are the benefits?

Living in a busy world where time is very limited makes it difficult for individuals to travel to regular classes in the evening and sometimes on weekends. Online tuition helps you to save time and money as you can work from the comfort of your home and at your own leisure. Hence with my course you will be only traveling for the occasional class and most of the rest is done from home.

Who is eligible to join?

Anyone that is interested to develop a good skill and craftsmanship in drawing and painting using traditional methods.

​

Unlike popular belief learning how to draw and paint in a structured manner does not limit you to draw or paint in one style and does not hinder your creativity. It is actually the opposite because once you know the basics you are free to use the acquired skills to develop your own style and to be free and ready to draw and paint anything that you want.

Learning program

The​ learning program is designed to help you develop a very proficient way of how to draw and paint. In order to progress you need to master the previous level. The major part of the program follows a structure used by Art institutions around the world approved by the Art Renewal Centre.

The program is not only focused to develop your techniques but also is aimed to develop your observational skills to see and measure proportions accurately and to enhance your sensitivity to colour and tone.

What you learn?

  • Drawing and painting techniques as used by master artists from the Renaissance

  • Monochromatic painting

  • How to construct a painting in stages

  • How to see, apply color and how to mix color as paint

  • Use of brushwork

  • Use of media

  • Techniques such as imprimatura, grisaille, glazing, indirect painting, Alla prima

For the first year of this program I am only accepting a maximum of 4 students. For this year only I am giving a special introductory rate.
