Atelier Training

The program is divided into three levels: Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced.

​

You will have to be successful complete one level before you can go ahead to the next.

​

The aim of the program is to help you build up a high level of skill, increasing the level of difficulty as you progress.

​

Once you enroll I will send to you all details and materials to start working on the first level of the course and you will also be ready to book your studio sessions. We will also have continuous communication, critiques, feedback, access to books etc online that are included in the fee.

Beginner Level

This level is divided into three stages mainly focusing on drawing. By the end of this level you should gain enough skill to become a competent amateur that can confidently draw. The aim of this level is to teach you how to observe and judge line, form and measuring accurate proportions.

During the first stage you will be drawing  from the flat using Bargue's lithographs to draw the human form.

​

Stage 2 is focused of tonal value and form using more complex lithographs

​

Stage 3 Drawing in full tonal range using graphite and charcoal

​

It is required from you to complete two very good quality drawings at each stage before you progress to the next Intermediate level.

Price: AU$ 200  including 3 studio sessions (9 hrs) booked by appointment and continuous online support. For the studio sessions you will be joining one of my group class sessions. There is no time-frame to finish however it is suggested that you dedicate a number of hours weekly of practice done in the comfort of your home are recommended.

Intermediate level

We will now move from drawing from the flat to drawing from casts. We will use the same methodology as in the previous level to measure and construct the image using charcoal.  Each student will require to finish two detailed studies before proceeding to next stage.

During this stage you will be introduced to oil painting starting with monochromatic (one color) painting and learning painting techniques as were used by the old masters during the Renaissance.

​

We will be using casts and master copies to produce tonal studies while learning painting methods such as imprimatura and grisaille to gradually build up the painting in multiple layers of paint.

​

As you progress you will be introduced to colour starting with a limited palette while learning to strictly mix colour as observed and compared to real objects. In order to progress further you will need to finish between 10 - 15 small colour studies of increasing complexity. This will give you a lot of skill in observation and increase your ability to see and judge colour.

Price: AU$ 350   including 5 studio sessions (15 hrs) booked by appointment and ongoing online support and critique. For the studio sessions you will be joining one of my group sessions. Reference materials will also be provided when needed. There is no time-frame to finish however it is suggested that you dedicate a number of hours weekly of practice done in the comfort of your home are recommended.

Advanced level

At this level you will already have a very high level of skill in drawing and painting using oils that makes you ready to paint more complex subjects.

 

During this stage you will continue to develop further your skills and to start using these to develop your own style and technique. This stage will prepare you to become an exhibiting artist.

At this stage you will be required to complete to a very good quality level complex still life paintings in full color. These still life paintings will consist of complex subjects including perishables, metal, glass, fabrics that you will be required to render convincingly using paint.

Still life 1: High contrast still life (between light and darks)

Still life 2: Still life including perishables (fruits and flowers)

Still life 3: Complex still life including a number of different objects, materials testing all your skills including composition,

​

You will also be required to paint the human form and portraiture in full color using master copies, photography and from life.

​

Price: AU$ 1000  including 10 studio sessions of one-on-one support. Reference materials will be supplied when needed. You will also have continuous online support when working at home. Payments can also be done in smaller bundles.
